My family didn’t have a lot of traditions when I was growing up. Sometimes my mom would try to get us to go around the table at Thanksgiving and say one thing we were grateful for, which nobody took very seriously (sorry, mom). The traditions Daniel and I have created so far have sprung up organically from things that we loved doing last year and want to do again, like our snowy New Year’s Day hike up Squak Mountain.
We picked the Central Peak trail last year because of the lack of high snow drifts and the avalanche danger that comes with it. There was a bit more snow at the peak this year, about 3-4 inches, which made the trek even more fun.
