Tiny Hikes: Squak Mountain Central Peak

My family didn’t have a lot of traditions when I was growing up. Sometimes my mom would try to get us to go around the table at Thanksgiving and say one thing we were grateful for, which nobody took very seriously (sorry, mom). The traditions Daniel and I have created so far have sprung up organically from things that we loved doing last year and want to do again, like our snowy New Year’s Day hike up Squak Mountain.

We picked the Central Peak trail last year because of the lack of high snow drifts and the avalanche danger that comes with it. There was a bit more snow at the peak this year, about 3-4 inches, which made the trek even more fun.

Tiny Hikes: Trek to Snow Lake

We didn’t get out this past weekend because we were moving our stuff a mile up the road to a new little townhouse in Capitol Hill. Here’s a little flashback to our hike to Snow Lake last month!

Snow Lake is the perfect hike if you want to stick close to Seattle and want a lot of bang for your buck. It’s not long or steep compared to some alpine lake hikes (looking at you, Rachel Lake!) and you’re treated to a beautiful lake view after just about two miles. What’s not to love?

Tiny Hikes: Soaking in the Goldmyer Hot Springs

Have you ever seen photos of a place that immediately flood you with an “I-need-to-go-to-there” feeling?

I stumbled across the Goldmyer Hot Springs through a Facebook group way, way back at the beginning of June, and knew I had to check it out. Since they only allow twenty people on the property each day, I couldn’t grab a reservation for a larger group until September. It was absolutely worth the wait (and I’ve already made a note on my calendar to look for tickets for next year in the spring!)
